Sensors used to detect fatal gunshot wounds carried out on members of the public are to be deployed by police forces throughout the West Midlands
The sensors - which consist of a pair of mirror-symmetrical telescopes mounted side by side and aligned to point accurately in the same direction, enabling the user to view objects in a three dimensional image from a safe distance – are being installed on roof tops and high buildings throughout the West Midlands.
Trained police officers can then determine whether they should deploy resources to where the gunshot incident took place or go and deal with the delivery van double parked outside the mini-market instead.
It is hoped the sensors, known as the Shitstopper Location System - will help prevent police officers inadvertently stumbling upon armed gangs involved in drug dealing and local turf wars on the back streets of Erdington, freeing them up to hassle street vendors trying to scratch a living in the Bull Ring shopping centre.
The sensors have an 85% success rate and most officers are able to operate the system following an intensive 4-6 week course at the five-star Police Training Academy outside Evesham.
The system, called Project Blind Eye, is so sensitive it can even record audio clips of officers whispering things to each other, like ‘shit Brian- that was definitely a gunshot I heard then , let’s go and nab that flasher in the park before Beggsy and Harris get there’
Although the sensors are not set up to specifically target people in the black and Asian community on the streets of Birmingham - it seems most firearms are - and so supplies of the long range early warning device are already running low
The sensor can locate both stationary and moving targets but the longer the device is trained on them, both appear to get smaller and smaller before eventually disappearing from view altogether. Which - say officers - proves they are working perfectly.

Surprised no-one has commented on this. I like this a lot - it's at a good level. Stars.

Agreed. I think the problem may stem from the headline - may I suggest something like: 'Gunshot sensors ensure Birmingham police stay well clear of dangerous crime' or somesuch...

'He's got a gun!'
'Whoa everybody! Look busy and start checking tax discs.'

Excellent.
The headline dilemma is a tricky one. You have to make it funny to get people's attention, but giving the main joke away seems a waste sometimes.
