NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, an agency of the United States government traditionally charged with space exploration, has been forced to explore the Earth, the planet we have all been living on for the past billion years, due to budget cuts.
"In these difficult economic times," said a spokesperson for the US government, "We cannot justify the huge cost of space travel and exploration. Our nation's top scientists will just have to look for new life here on earth".
"Who knows," he added, "They may find lots of cool stuff they would have overlooked if they were always up in space".
NASA scientists were disappointed, but tried to remain positive.
"We just found this one bacterium that lives on arsenic in a poison lake in California. That's pretty cool right? I mean, a bacterium isn't as cool as a bloody great martian or anything, but still..."
Looks kind of like another planet, if you use your imagination
