Of course, there always was the danger that potential buyers would flock to cheap imported models, such as the Peugeot Merguez or the Seat Chorizo. And so they did, in their thousands.
Other companies failed to benefit to the same degree, as they did not offer the modern, exciting products that consumers were seeking. Outdated Vauxhall Cumberlands and Ford Linconshires continued to sell but the growth seen elsewhere in the market eluded the traditional manufacturers.
