When asked to give their preferences, 7 out of 10 turkeys plumped for Christmas rather than Easter, Lammastide or any of the other great dates in the Christian calendar, such as Ash Wednesday or the Second Sunday after Ascension. These rotund birds - a native of North America, confusingly, rather than Turkey - would rather be roasted, as the centrepiece of a holiday feast, rather than suffering the indignity of being extruded into the more mundane Twizzlers.
