Recently I went to my profile while logged in and, as you know, this gives me a list of all my contributions to NB. I copied and posted a link to this page, which it seems my friend could use and see all my contributions without needing my password. Furthermore I was able to click on the Member link below any other contributor and get a simmilar list for them too. This means I could, from my profile, access the profile of any other contributor and send a link to anyone else, who could then read all the contributions, without needing any password. Is this a good idea?

Not sure I understand
The whole world has always been able to see everyone's contributions anyway, either Room, without logging in
To make contributions to any Room, or send PMs, requires login

You mean people can see what I post on Facebook? I thought that was private. Shit . . .

They can’t see your email address and lots of people make up occupation and location.
They can see your contributions but they are public anyway

Ah! So that explains the number of Martian lion-tamers posting on here.

Hmm - probly true, TG.
Hereford is like Narnia, Eldorado or Hundred Acre Wood - even though people think it exists, or at least ought to exist, it isn't actually a real place. No-one even knows where it is supposed to be.
