Following the success of its dedicated TV comedy channel for blokes, Dave bosses have announced that they are to launch a sister channel, aimed at women, called Eileen.
Dave Chief Executive Lars Sorenson said “The majority of TV comedy is obviously just for blokes, and even the effeminate comedians like David Mitchell and the out and out gayers like Stephen Fry still get most of their laughs from ranting and bellowing like proper blokes. And as for the women comedians, well most of them look like blokes anyway”.
“But the girls do like a titter now and again too, bless ‘em, so we’ve found a place in the schedules to give them their own channel. Obviously it will not broadcast at times when women are getting the tea on or bathing the bairns, or preparing themselves for bedtime, but there’s probably an hour or so in the middle of the evening, after the soaps and before the football, when we can show re-runs of early French and Saunders sketches and Victoria Wood shows, to keep the little ladies happy”.
As for the name, Sorenson explained – we did copious amounts of research to find the female equivalent of the name Dave. Actually the real equivalent is Sharon, but we felt that gave off the wrong image, so we chose Eileen, after my office cleaner. She’s well chuffed”.
