Kids will still be getting what they want for Christmas despite their parents austerity plea. Kids up and down the land are still writing out overly long lists and are expecting them to be fulfilled come December 25th. Parents pleas seem to be falling on deaf ears.
Emma Thomas, 8, says she's still expecting a bumper return despite the recession.
"Well it's not like it's costing my parents anything is it? It's Santa who brings the presents and he's always delivered come the big day. If my parents loved me then they will make sure Santa gets what's on the list and brings everything on it. My parents have said I should make a smaller list and that it's a time for difficult choices. Well the choice is whether I hate them for the rest of my life or not," said Emma.
Emma doesn't see it as a financial issue and thinks Toyland institutional racism could be at the heart of it.
"They tell me to think of people in Africa. Why? It's Santa who brings the presents. Doesn't he like them? Is he a racist? My mum says that some kids would be happy with food and water this Christmas but why ask for that when you can get that all year around? Africans appear to be weak and need to learn more about emotional blackmail and sulking," said Emma
"Mum often says I can have one or the other of certain costly items but she says that every year and I still end up with both. If you don't ask, you don't get."
The pressure on parents is immense and they know that they are only one call away from Childline. Sorry Ass Parents Society [SAPS] are increasingly worried about how weak parents are getting. Gone are the days when you got a tangerine and sixpence and a clip around the ear.
"Parents have an irrational fear that their kids will hate them forever and will hold a grudge until the day you die, when they will dance on your grave because you didn't buy Barbie for them 40 years ago," said a spokeswoman for SAPS.
"Actually that last bit may be true. You never really do forget the rejection and lack of love from your parents. When you find out it wasn't even Santa but the action of your parents that meant you didn't get what you wanted then you feel like your whole life has been one long persecution from start to finish."
