Ahmed Mohammed Aziz, named as the gunman who shot the stag thought to be the Exmoor Emperor, has made contact with the media in order to send a clear message that it could not in fact have been Britain's largest land mammal.
Returning from a half-term Center Parcs break with his family, Dr Aziz (39), a GP from Minehead in Somerset, and treasurer of his local hunting club, felt that it should be made clear to all interested parties that the red deer stag he shot with a party of other local licenced hunters last week, and which weighed in at just over 135kg (300lbs), was definitely not the UK's largest land mammal, in contrast to reports carried by most news sources.
'You only have to take one look at my waiting room to see that 300lbs [about 21 stone] isn't close to being the largest mammal in Minehead even.'
