Cyprus isn't part of Greece is it? Don't worry, though, no one will notice...oops

How about "Britain to sell Ireland to pay off national debt"?

Ireland is even worse state than UK. You might get a few devalued Euros for a leprechaun or 2, but little else. As for Cyprus, the Greeks did want to have it all to themselves, and maybe still do, but the Turks got their oar in first. But all this was along time ago.

Uh...yes. Interesting philosophical question: is accuracy an essential element of satire?

"this was a long time ago" Thanks Ostee, I remember a lot of it on the news. It think Cyprus was part of the Ottoman Empire until after WW1 (after Lord Byron wrote a poem most of Greece gained independence about 1820 something) and Britain probably took it on as a protectorate, not as part of the Empire. An Archbishop Mykarios, who in spite of his name wasn't an island soon to become very popular with homosexuals, was in charge of a freedom fighters movement with a name involving only Greek letters. We got out the way, the ethnically Greek Cypriots weren't very nice to the Turkish ones so Turkey Invaded the north part of the island (early 70s) and lots of British celebrities who were holidaying there got their names in the papers. Apparently Greek children are taken on school outings to the Green Line to spit and shout insults at the Turks on the other side.
I think it would be a great idea for us to sell N.I. to Eire, but until the Irish can think of another way of screwing the E.U. system they've got no cash. When they find the way a lot it'll be our money anyway, so we'll be paying ourselves for itPosted 3 years ago # -
...to Turkey maybe?

Good thinking Oxy, Turkey'd get their entry to the E.U.by the back door, then be kicked out for their intolerance to Islamic customs.

looks like it wasn't for the greeks to sell it as it is owned by the IMF, buth parts I guess. Now selling it off to Ras Putin makes sense. Fnishing the cyprus conflict between Greece and Turkey by declaring it Russian is a great attempt. A bit like stoppinng the irish conflict by reverting the country from wearing green to orange and go Hare Krishna
