Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
- Psalms (ch. XIX, v. 2) - from The Bible
There is nothing ugly; I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may, – light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful. (John Constable - little known British Artist)
Chapter 1: A Rude Awakening for A Brilliant Mind
John Mann stared at his ceiling which was white. It was dark in the room. He was lying on his back on his bed. His eyes moved with his head to the left. They stared at certificates and diplomas and prizes in frames upon the wall. He could not read them but he knew what they all said, because it was dark. So dark this night.
He had lots of diplomas from collages and schools from across New Hampshire it lots of different and clever subjects; science; history; religion; problem solving; math. There were more but too many to mention. His brain thought of other things: the space in the bed next to him was empty. Empty space. Meaning void of content.
Where was his wife? She was dead. Dead because of some rare disease that John Mann couldn't cure. Doctors couldn't cure it either. It was incurable. She was gone. Then the alarm went off because it was set to go off at 6:45 and it was that time. Time has come though John. It had. He continued his thoughts. A rude awakening for this day, of all days. A bad omen. Maybe. This was an important day. Or was it?...
