The BBC recently published a story suggesting the Pied Piper legend may have an historical basis. An unexpected result of this has been growing concern, approaching panic among the Brexit community constituency.
"This story is suggesting," said a well-known Brexit voter,"that a whole city could be conned by a guy in a fancy suit, equipped with a simple pipe, who could lead off a huge crowd of innocent folk who were never seen again." Their natural fear of following a stranger into the unknown seems to have been overcome by a simple tune, ironically named Project Fear.
Meanwhile stalwart Brexiteers, Cummings & Govings, have tried to combat this fear. "This legend is quite different from the Brexit scenario," they claimed. "Hamlin was a German town where no one had heard of good British common sense. Also it was the children who followed the Piper and fell victim to his siren call, whereas Brexit was voted for by the older, wiser folk. The wealthy burghers, whose refusal to pay the Piper for his rat services precipitated the crisis, were not just protecting their own pockets but were probably as upset as the parents. There is nothing in the story to suggest they were glad to see the back of the youngsters and was the one surviving cripple not welcomed home with open arms?"
Hoping to see a 1 star from DG, WITH EXPLANATION of why this doesn't work.
