Is this how the Farages/Bannons of the world fall? Bog standard fraud charges.
Also, if Bannon goes, that will be a big blow to Trump's campaign. Bannon is not part of the Trump team but is a massive rain-maker when it comes to Trump's base.

That's how they got Capone. Another gangster.
It does seem to be still the way of things at certain levels, there and in the UK. What Nixon and Kissinger did to Cambodia was one of the most heinous 'war' crimes in human history, and indeed their methods and actions were a crime in the US. But Nixon fell on the much lesser Watergate scandal - never going to prison - and Kissinger was punished with a Nobel Peace Prize* and still moves in lofty Republican circles.

On both sides of the Atlantic, only one minor individual was ever successfully prosecuted for the 2008 financial global crash even when there was - I understand - damning evidence against hundreds of individuals. Prosecutors backed down citing 'probabilities of achieving convictions' as their chief reason for not proceeding on hundreds of cases.
The law on both sides of the Atlantic was always designed to protect those at the highest level of private and public power. Although the law has come a long way, there appear to be overriding mechanisms built in to protect those at the highest levels who commit the highest crimes.
My personal perspective is that justice was never the true intention historically: rather the simple principal prevailed of he with the best legal team wins.
FAKE NEWS!!!
Stormy Daniels 2020
Bannon - it was nice to look at the news and see a lying hateful bastard getting prosecuted instead of promoted for once. Brought a smile to my face. A bit surprised he was so stupid and greedy, but hey.
I get the "of all the things he could be prosecuted for, this?" reaction. But as well as the precedents, I think his worst stuff is fundamentally political. Prosecuting him for racism, lying about political claims etc could make him a 'martyr' (albeit still alive).
Whereas, let's see him save his 'outsider' 'peoples conservative' reputation from being exposed as having ripped off thousands of 'little guy' donors. Wouldn't it be a shame if his trial ran and ran, taking lots of news coverage in election year.
Given the level of corruption around everybody associated with Trump it seems that fraud of some sort is the most likely actual crime that anybody will be charged with.
Will be interesting to see what Trump goes to prison for himself once he's no longer president. It won't be for attempting to destroy democracy and ruin a country for personal gain, it'll probably be some sort of fraud.
I didn't know Al Capone supported Trump. I'd have thought someone would have noticed
I think Trump will fall because of Tax evasion in NY. If he ever agrees to leave the White House, obvs. Not the worst crime he's done, but something of substance rather than policy
I guess he needs to be convicted before Trump can pardon him, so have to expedite that trial so it concludes before February
