In lieu of 'quoting' all of G's post (plus most others tbh)- yes. It's all strategy all divide & rule, tempered with distracting 'shiny-shiny' sops to our basest greeds, like 'Eat Out to Help Out'.
The sickening thing is, you can only pursue this if you have no morals, total egotistical belief in your own infallibility and impunity, and utter contempt for the electorate. "Never complain, never explain" also becomes "Never apologise, admit you were wrong or don't know, ask for help instead of simply issuing glib, lying soundbites and bullyingly battering down anyone who tries to hold you to account."
So much is for personal long-term gain, as well- we know Boris didn't care one way or the other about Brexit- he calculatedly picked the route that would steer him to being PM. & for all the comments/piss-taking at the time (I bet there was plenty on here)- it WORKED- & the rest falls away. Many decisions are being taken simply to benefit companies that politicians / families have an interest in / will be sounded out for directorships. Lining nest eggs for the protected, privileged few, at the repeated cost of the economy, environment, society, welfare, education, equality...
For all his many flaws, Corbyn's tax return was a delight- it simply had his parliamentary pay on it, & that was it. Very few others are so laudably simple; slightly worrying, if you don't think being an MP is a full-time job?? (Mr Osbourne...). In the higher echelons, at least- there are plenty of hardworking, genuine, conscientious backbenchers out there- but we don't hear about them because they're laudably grinding away to serve their constituents, not themselves. I hadn't heard of the wonderful Jo Cox until....
Boris never got 'stuck' on that zipwire, he specifically requested it. Symbolises everything you need to know.
