I though today's FP wasn't up to scratch. Fair headline followed by lots of gay jokes.... satire?

Fair point riesler re satire.I enjoyed it though.I hope if a sub is funny enough it gets an airing whether or not it's satirical.Some 'satirical' subs are woefully unfunny.
'Conjugate the verb;to mince'

I would like to be VERY picky
Nah
Lazy stereotyping
Gay = bent / straight = superior
Gay = pooftah / straight = red-blooded
Gay = casual sex / straight = family guy
Gay = mince / straight = macho
Gay = interior design / straight = builder
Gay = theatre / straight = football
Gay = enchanted / straight = knuckle dragging
Do these sort of subs make straight guys feel better about themselves, reaffirm their masculinity?

Er...do you think the Romans had Political Correctness movements?

Those Roman gladiators were SO gay

I think they tried to build a Yellow Brick Road in a desperate attempt to find Dorothy.

Watch out for their claws said the lion.

OK, so the Romans gave us somebody called Didius Julianus, which is questionable.
But the Brits gave us creepy middle aged Emperors in tight fitting black T shirts and taught facial expressions.
I know which one I'd rather go over the top with.Posted 2 years ago # -
Don't forget Biggus Dickus.

Or Sillius Soddus.

Excellent FP, very funny. Doubt if gays would have an issue with this.

Er....

Funny bits left out. Could only appeal to a minority of over-50 suburban men. I did add some great tags, though.

Over minus 50 ? Who the hell is over minus 50 Rik ?
Posted 2 years ago # -
I thought the M1 was a good joke. Not sure if the centurion using dost and hast in place of doth and hath was a joke or not.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Saltinho, meant that only some over-50 suburban men would be comforted by this kind of "humor", that is, it is so lame that not even a majority of them would be pleased by it.

Rikkor - he was just mocking your hyphen in "over-50". Calling it a minus sign.
Saltire - I guess we are all over minus 50.Posted 2 years ago # -
I guess we are Golgo.Although some of us don't look it..

I liked it. The gay angle seemed to be satirising common perceptions of gayness IMHO, but in any case why can't gays be satirised too?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Gay people are more than happy to be satirised, but let's move on from this approach.
It was simply reinforcing common perceptions of gayness - it's a tired, negative formulaic slant
In the three years I have been following NewsBiscuit EVERY single gay sub has followed this lazy, limp, worn out, pigeonholed, stereotyping routine.
Try something new.
Larry Grayson RIP
Apart from my own extremely punchy and well worked subs. Obviously.Posted 2 years ago # -
I thought it was fine. Nobody could take offence. Unless they were of a sensitive dispisition.
Or called Julian or Sandy...

Maybe we should draw a line, or shut that door?

I seem to remember a wonderful sub a few years ago along the lines of 'Gay community request straight community to take George Michael back, please.' I have searched but can't find it, sadly...
