The director general of Man United TV has hit out at accusations that his TV channel is biased, labelling his critics as right wing, climate change little englanders.
Speaking at the Chorley Television Festival, Kevin Atkins reacted angrily to critics who likened ManU TV's reporting to the BBC's coverage of news.
"I like a joke as much as the next man, but those Andrew Marr comparison go beyond mickey taking. That's just really nasty," he told one critic. The heckler later apologised for the unfortunate comparison, and admitted he had got carried away.
Atkins pointed out that Manchester City fans are much better treated at Old Trafford than anyone blue shirted visitors to Broadcasting House, the home ground of the BBC. "I'd hate to have to play an away game at the BBC. They throw everything at you - emotional grandstanding, prejudice, even kitchen sink dramas," he said.
