Tentacled tipster Paul the Octopus, who successfully predicted several results during the 2010 World Cup, has been executed.
The cephalopod mollusc was only recently discovered to have hidden his real identity, that of Hitler's close associate Joseph Goebbels, before embarking on his new life at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre.
Paul's son Otto was mystified at the execution, called it "politically motivated". He said that his father was the subject of mistaken identity. "Everyone knows Goebbels only had two arms and one heart" he said, "The post-mortem will show my father had eight and three respectively. It just doesn't add up".
