The votes are now in, counted and the winner of the Rhetoric of the Decade Award has been awarded to the, somewhat threadbare phrase, “We must learn from this, take stock and work together to ensure that this never happens again!” It was thought the main attraction of this was that it never involves a proper apology, fits all occasions, rarely apportions or recognises blame and demonstrates a level of concern. Unsurprisingly it is the same winner as throughout the most of the previous century!
