A maternity ward looking for financial backing from the Dragon's Den has come away with the £120k it needed to push the business forward. One of the dragons, James Caan, has decided to invest the full amount of £120k for 35% of the business.
Nurse Gladys Thompson gave a confident pitch but only an emotional Caan decided to back the idea. Peter Jones was the first to look rich and smug and three other dragons quickly joined him. That left Caan as the only hope of investment.
"I like it. I like you. I can see this has got a lot of potential," he said. "I can see the actual ward has running costs but the making of the product can't be any more than the cost of a few pints of lager. I can see us having a chain of these across the country."
"There's definitely a market out there. The turnover is quick and profitable. Christmas is coming up and people will love this idea. I know my brother is looking for one of these products. It allows people to have a celebrity lifestyle at an affordable price point."
He seemed particular interested that they came in different colours and that they would be graded. Nurse Thompson explained that some makers were more skilled than others and those products would cost a little more. Returns and damaged goods could be a problem but was no deal-breaker for Caan.
There seemed to be a neverending supply and Caan's expertise in redistribution would be invaluable.
"I know the other dragons were put off by the fact that there are free ones available but they are really low end and ugly designs."
