The price of a cup of tea mate looks set to rise from today after the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alastair Darling, announced a 10% increase in VAT on strong cider. The price of cup of tea mate has been stable for several years, traditionally set at 10p, rising to 20p if you look like a Guardian reader.
