There was spontaneous rejoicing throughout the Cotswolds and Home Counties tonight as Wayne Rooney pledged his immediate future to Manchester United in a remarkable turnaround.
As the news broke, supporters in United's heartlands of Hitchin, Chelmsford and Melksham took to the streets in celebration.
Die-hard fans Darren Sponge, 18, and his Dad Darren, 34, of Wooton Bassett, were among the first to hear the news. Said Darren "I have missed every single Man U game, home and away, for 30 years. Now that darren is old enough he will be missing all the games with me too. It is great news that Dave Reaney has agreed to stay at the club".
I'm Surrey to hear that.
