You go down the old place to have a bit peace of and quiet in your old comfy chair and there's a party going on, it's packed out. They're all at that difficult age as well, when they haven't realised how old they really are.

They'll probably pass out soon Plucky and the Scots among 'em will get into a punch up and carted off to A & E

is your icon thing Virginia Woolf, ram? Do you look like her?
oh! i just realised that you went to the pub. i thought you meant you own kids were partying.

No Plucky, it's the only pic I have of me from when I had hair down to over my shoulders, you can't really make it out, though, can you. I think I'd probably had a puff or two of one of those hand-rolled ciggies I used to quite like then.
I don't think I'd recognise Virginia Woolf if I slapped her in the stomach with a wet haddock but didn't she have a rather pointy face and was only ever seen in black and white?
I was moaning about what's going on at the old NB. Just because it's mostly unused some of the more rowdy members think they can wreck the joint.Posted 3 years ago # -
Who's a pretty boy then sid ? Fancy a drink ? I'll buy.

Here, we've been tidying over there Ram! Plus, you can still smoke in the bar, and if anyone complains, I plan to barricade us in with what's left of the furniture.

Ah Jeni, I've dug out the old Instamatic so give us a shout when you and the others have got your kit off. Can't get any film for the camera, but never mind. Rest assured everything will be in the best possible taste. I've borrowed Salty's DOM raincoat, to fit the part, if you get my drift.

Any time now Ram...
Posted 3 years ago # -
I'm all of a quiver Jeni, as Phil Archer said, just before he died

no offence, like.

I'd stay away for the next wee while Ram. Des is pissed, spilling drinks, feeling me up, and I think he's reached that point where he's itching for a fight. I was quite happy being the only girl earlier, but things are going to get messy.

Jeni! Do be careful! Hide in the ladies loo, as Miss Munky used to do if it all goes off. Plucky xxx
Posted 3 years ago # -
Christ Plucky! you nearly scared the be-jayzus out of me. I told you she was pointy and black and white and anyway, my hair was twice the length.
Don't worry Jeni, I've got a feather in my pocket which should be more than a match for a can of dairy based dessert topping from Tunbridge Wells. I'm glad he's not from Salford- I'd be creaming myself.Posted 3 years ago # -
God no, Plucky!! If it all kicks off I'll be in my usual place. Right in the middle of it!
Only girls hide in the loos.
Oh. Right.

Fair dos, ram, but I have seen one of her with her hand on her face, like you. I don't want to suggest you are identical. Just that there may be similarities. Or perhaps not. You should try her 'To the Lighthouse' and her short strories, though.
Jeni, are you OK over there? I didn't realise it was still open.

When the chairs started flying, in the Railway Inn, Jeni, she locked herself in the loo. A few years ago now, though. After lots of dog problems, she will be off to SA soon, at last.
Posted 3 years ago # -
She sounds infinitely more sensible than I am Plucky.
Glad to hear the dog issues are resolved and that once again, she will be off on her travels.Posted 3 years ago # -
Taking a dog from Spain to Durban is like taking money off bankers, Jeni. I wonder, though, when she will 'settle down'. She is 32 now. Does everyone have to settle down, eventually, or not? The main thing is that, for most of the time, she is happy, I guess.

Plucky, I do not bear any resemblance to Virginia Woolf and the only thing I remember about her book on lighthouses is the act of reading it.
How about a picture of yourself then? I bet you look just like Florence Nightingale.Posted 3 years ago # -
I Do look a bit like a young Florence Nightingale, Ram! I will try to find photos of both of us and you can see. I am a Fellow of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. That says something, I suppose.
On reflection, I have to apologise. I see, now, that you look nothing like the wonderful Mrs Woolf. She had a different nose.
Hope all is well.
