“Blue skize,” a government funded think tank has issued a report, prompted by the recent expenses scandal calling for Voice Stress Analysis lie detector equipment to be installed in the commons, results to be displayed via a red/amber/green traffic light display. Green – true, red – lie and amber – unconvincing either way. It was felt that apart from helping to restore faith in politicians it would also show that the are happy to be subjected to the same system allowed under parliamentary approval, that used, over the telephone in a bid to detect benefit cheats. In a demonstration to the speaker and his advisors the light remained constantly on red, even during the sales pitch, in which its reliability was highlighted, only turning to green when the price was proffered. The speaker suggested installing such a system might alarm the public excessively and leave debates fodder for the bookies.
