Nick Clegg is to announce plans to offer pre-parliament schooling in the most radical reforms since the last ones. Potential MPs will be given 15 hours of free pre-parliament education a week in which they will be awarded either a 'backbench premium' or a rather lucrative 'frontbench premium' to help see them through their career.
Most MPs come into the Houses of Parliament with a sense of being able to make a real difference with radical ideas, riding on a wave of optimism and combining a mixture of the ideal and the realistic. This course hopes to knock all that out of them and prepare them for the harsh realities of expendible principles, half-truths, shady financial practices and how to concentrate on looking after number one and your bank balance.
Mr Clegg said the plans would give MPs from all backgrounds "the chance to forget all their dreams, abandon their aspirations and live a rather comfortable life without doing very much at all".
Money to pay for the course has already been set aside in a £2.5bn Parliamentary Fund for 'whatever' and potential MPs on the course and even those who are already MPs and not on the course can dip into it at any time.
