A report released yesterday by the Department of Transport has proved the effectiveness of worry beads in cars. The four-year study, in association with the University of Lincoln, has shown that injury was prevented in 93% of serious car accidents when prayer-beads or worry-beads were hung from the mirror, even if the driver is not devoutly religious. Michael Grainger, 43, was pulled alive last week from his Vauxhall Omega without a scratch when the car was tail-ended by a 50-ton lorry load of gravel. Police at the scene said it was likely that anyone without beads would have been crushed.
Tests are now underway to test the effectiveness against cancer of imitaion gold-plated tissue box holders on the rear parcel shelf.
