The bidding war for Liverpool FC took another unexpected turn today, when chairman Martin Broughton announced a rival bid from a new consortium. "I am pleased to say that a three man consortium called the Sure Fire Bankers has formally made a bid to rival the one we are already considering from the New England Sports Venture group", said Mr Broughton. Although initially reluctant to provide further details about the new bidders, Mr Broughton eventually named the trio as Mr Jerome Kerviel, who until recently held a top job at the French bank Societe Generale, Mr Nick Leeson, formerly a highly regarded currency and securities trader at Barings Bank and Mr Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister and Chancellor, credited for ending the 'boom and bust' economic cycle in the UK economy. "I am pleased we are attracting this level of interest", said Mr Broughton, "With backers such as this, the future of Liverpool football club is in safe hands."
