A school dinner lady in the West Midlands has been suspended from work after accusations that she was grooming a biscuit for sex.
Phillis Havery, a catering supervisor at Hargate Heath Primary School, was seen gently stroking a plain chocolate hobnob and whispering into its oaty, crumbly base by two pupils at the primary school she worked at.
The two children, who cannot be named, are reported to be extremely distressed and are being treated for shock.
Dr Richard Teagh, a psychologist with expertise in biscuit grooming cases, said that this was much more common than people think in the catering trade.
Currently all catering staff in direct contact with biscuits or cakes are required to undergo a Criminal Confectionary Bureau check first. Ministers will certainly now be asked whether these measures are strict enough.
Yesterday her husband, Phillip, defended his wife, saying she had never abused a biscuit in his presence. “Yeah, sure she had a thing with a Jaffa Cake a few years ago, but that’s not really a biscuit and anyway we had counselling and we’ve moved on.”
