Owners of spoof TV channel Dave this week pleaded guilty to ram raiding the BBC archives in search of more episodes of Top Gear. In court, Justice Jonathan Stevenson accepted their guilty plea and sentenced them to a two year suspended sentence, provided they agreed to stop showing episodes of the Gadget Show and removed the word ‘comedy’ from all descriptions and adverts.
In their defence Dave senior executives told the court that Top Gear was the only good thing on the channel and that current episodes had been played so many times that they were ‘paper thin’. “We got so desperate that we tried to shoplift episodes of ‘Two Pints of Lager’ from BBC3,” one admitted in tears.
All senior executives also agreed to seek counselling for their Top Gear addiction. They were ordered to pay £35 court costs and take out a subscription to Caravanning Monthly.
