The sad news of Norman Wisdom’s death has had a silver lining for former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who seems set to take over the mantle as the nation’s favourite slapstick hero.
‘I’ve been looking to take my career in a direction away from politics since May’ said Mr Brown. ‘I don’t really fancy after dinner speaking, but this could be just the opening I’ve been looking for.’
Film experts are in general agreement that Mr Brown could be the man for the job. ‘Just look at his gaffes in recent years' said Barry Norman. ‘No more boom and bust’, ‘I am the saviour of the world’ and those 'bigoted woman' comments – all he needs to do is a bit more gambolling and a few pratfalls and he’ll be away.’
‘If all else fails I know I can always get a laugh with my winning smile’ added Mr Brown as his belt snapped and his trousers fell down to his ankles.
