Never read detective fiction normally, but this is gripping stuff.

Mr Mary is totally obsessed with it at the moment. Got himself in a tizz about whether or not he should finish the book first or watch the film. Ended up hiring the film (having waited for it for weeks) then not watching it. Twice.

Best to finish the book first I think. Also, watch the Swedish subtitled fillums before Hollywood bring their (crap) versions out.
When you moving BTW? Still going ahead? Also where too?

Loved the first book but got a bit bored with the others.

All the films are on the P2P network already. I thought there was a decent one hour episode of Wallander in there, but at 6+ hours, christ, it does go on a bit.

I'm with you Husky - although I feel I must support my husband watching foreign films of a fully-clothed nature.
I wonder, are there any truly good films of the book? Godfather is pretty good. Struggling to think of many others.
ps - yes, still moving hopefully Scroaty, Surrey is going to have to live without me for a while...

The Princess Bride has got to be one of the best films of a book in existence, glorious, endlessly quotable and has a Peter Cook cameo.
The Nolan brothers' take on The Prestige is brilliant too, far better than the book.

I love the Princess Bride - the book was very good, but had the massive shortfalling of not containing Cary Elwes, with whom I remain passionately in love.

You can't have him, he's mine. I even sat through Robin Hood Men In Tights just to stare at the pretty man, that's dedication.

The Princess Bride is a great film though i haven't read the book and i'm not in love with Cary Elwes so he's all yours!. Off the top of my head i would say that Silence of the Lambs and Trainspotting are two really good adaptations, for the Sci-Fi heads among us i would also add Blade Runner, even though it's more loosely based. For those three though i could probably name 100 more that were shit

Princess Bride Score by Mark Knopfler.Listen, while you score with Cary Elwes Mary.Make sure you're 'protected' as you are no longer entitled to Child Benefit.
Hope this helps.Posted 2 years ago # -
Yes - they always seem to end up being a compromise. Main reason being they have to leave so much out.
With this in mind, The Road could be faithful to the original. But have yet to see it.
Interestingly (or not perhaps) Lord of the Rings took lots of liberties and changed stuff and still ended up being three excellent films. So long as you weren't expecting anything like the books...

I've always found the Mr Men true to the books, but much prefer Arthur Lowe to John Alderton.

Yep the trilogy is bubble-gum, but AAA Grade bubble gum. I loved it.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has sold 30 million copies...some fucker must be reading them. It's up there with A Very Hungry Caterpillar (30 million), Kane and Abel (34 million) and Angels and Demons (39 million)...
Mr Men series has shifted about 100 million over the 50-odd titles

Speaking of "gripping stuff", let it go! It's turning purple.
