A leaked 'granny' letter warning of swingeing cuts to children's presents this Christmas has been condemned by children's supporters.
'I'm so angry at the person who leaked this letter,' said child psychologist Teresa Hollinghead. 'This could have a devastating effect on the morale of the nation's kids when they are already facing the challenge of Halloween and Guy Fawkes.'
The letter, written by grandmother Margaret Bains (82), tells her daughter Ruth Wilson that she will be sending her two grandchildren 'just a book token and some sweets this year on account of the cuts'.
Mrs Bains goes on to say,
'I know little Liam was expecting a Lego rocket launcher for Christmas, but in these hard times we all have to make sacrificies.'
It's understood that the letter was leaked to Mrs Bains' grandchildren who then took it to a local newspaper.
'Of course, the children are distraught,' said Mrs Wilson. 'I know these are difficult times, especially for pensioners, but I think Mother is making cuts out of ideology rather than necessity. She'll be getting bugger all from us this Christmas.'
