   There have been many times in my life that I have seen or done things that have prompted the comment "That is something to tell your grandchildren".

   The time has now come that my grandchildren are old enough to be told...but I can't remember what I should be telling them.

   Just thought I would share that.

   There may be a sub lurking here but I am too depressed to write it.

   Always remember, no matter how difficult it is, always learn to cheat at exam time. Useful for when exams meant something but I reckon solely writing your name will get you a pass at A level these days

   Riesler I usually only get emotional when I'm drunk or lying, but your poignant post brought a little tear to my eye.

   On a more practical note, just lie to the grandkids. Mine beloved grandparents used to make up all this crap about this big war - couldn't get enough of it.

   I remember people queuing all night to get the third Oasis album in '97 and saying it would be something to tell their grandchildren about. Doesn't seem very significant now.

    I went on holiday with 3 mates. Turns out, the reporter-type one called Richard does a morning TV programme nowadays. Only worked this out last year, 35 years later. Must have haunted me.

    Seeing the Eclipse from a cliff in Cornwall in 1999, seeing a Space Shutttle launch in 1997, and seeing Hale Bopp comet in the same year. Mind you, the kids are more impressed at the moment by tales about having a poo through a hole in the floor on a train in Thailand.

    Luckily my grandchildren have not lived to hear the wild and woolly tales that I recall with 20-20 acuity. The Challenger disaster. George Bush I and II. Ronald Reagan (who won WWII).

    Whenever I said I didn't like a certain food (which was quite often, admittedly), my grandparents would tell me that in the War, they couldn't get that. Which would have been fine by me.
