Five News has been granted special religious status, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has confirmed.
Five's press spokesman Andy Thin expressed the UK TV channel's delight at the decision.
"Our news viewers have long been aware that the likes of Simon [Cowell], Cheryl [Cole] and [Lady] Gaga are the most important people on the planet, ever, and always will be. As such, we've long felt that the term 'news' doesn't do full justice to their lives. We're delighted that our viewers will now be able to enjoy a full program of evening worship, prayer and devotion".
Five are inviting viewers to suggest a name for the new flagship program - current contenders are 'I Was Like, Oh My God', 'Ringtones of Praise', and 'Vacuous Sh*te'.
