Former manager and pundit Ron Atkinson is once again at the centre of racial controversy after making comments advocating the genocide of Chinese citizens.
The comments, which Atkinson made after he believed the microphone had been switched off, stated in unequivocal terms that “not a single one should be saved”.
Atkinson, however has refused to apologise for his comments and insists that the comments were taken out of context.
“Of course, to anyone reading in a newspaper or a satirical online substitute, the comments will appear to be appallingly racist” said Atkinson “but the comments I made have to be understood in the context of my role as a commentator on a match between Gillingham and Darlington. If you had been there that night, my comments would have made perfect sense”.
The night was supposed to be one of redemption for “Big Ron”, more than 6 years after the initial racial controversy that left his reputation in tatters. But sources close to the oversized bigot warned his prolonged absence from gainful employment had only made things worse, leading him to become a full-time racist.
Atkinson however insisted the latest allegations are hurtful and completely false. “Some of my favourite restaurants are Chinese” he insisted “obviously, not one of those weird ones that eat electrocuted-dog, I mean the ones that have conclusively accepted Western values”.
