Agree. Furry = better. Smooth = weird.

Although you can't eat a peach in public but you can a nectarine.

Mr B volunteered to do the shopping at the weekend, and was specifically told "Peaches. Not nectarines. Peaches. The furry ones." Of course, he brought back nectarines, although when I pointed this out to him, his explanation was that as far as he was concerned there is no difference, and that I was being ridiculously picky.
Peaches are considerably tastier, and juicier than their smooth skinned relatives.
How can he not get this?Posted 2 years ago # -
Are smooth nectarines and furry peaches a, erm, metaphor for anything else?
Just thought I'd check before I entered into this discussion and put my foot in it.
(To be clear, my foot wasn't a metaphor either.)

I, personally, am referring solely to fruit. And by fruit, I mean the food stuff.

Absolutely not, Moptop. You've been writing too much Mills and Boon. We are simply talking about peaches. Not Plums.

Nectarines are to peaches as golden delicios are to granny smiths. If you have to then yes. But if you have the choice, it is best to enjoy a couple of juce furry peaches with your 'nana. The fruit, obviously.

I'm confused.
And rather hot around the collar.

Just make sure you get five a day like Sir Ralph Halpern

Could I have two a day like Alan Clark instead?

Nectarines aren't furry? I thought that all fruit I bought ended up furry as a given, just before I throw it out. Surely I'm not the only one who has a fruit bowl that makes cider?

Quaz, if you're making cider, help yourself to the apple-tree at the top of the drive. There's no way we can eat them all, so you might as well have them since we've no biscuits left.

Seems to me that it is a question of age. People over the age of 30 are more inclined to peaches. People under 30 find it more fashionable to tend towards nectarines. Personally, I am a more of a fig man.

'Nando, je makes a chicken liver pate where one lines the mould with figs what have been soaked in port. Vy. good.

'Nando is right, it is a question of age. Let the Nectarines get old enough and they grow fur like a Peach, that way you only need to buy Nectarines and you fancy a Peach instead you just have one of the older ones. The same goes for milk and yogurt.
