Just been catching up on a recent "Just A Minute" pod cast and really enjoing the skills of Nicholas Parsons. 87 next month (!) and still holding his own with the likes of John Bishop, Paul Merton and Shappi Khorsandi.
Best straight man in the business. Catch him while you still can.....

My mate's dad was a delivery driver for teh drinks trade and once parked up in the early hours of the morning on a SoHo side street - Nicholas Parsons couldn't get his car around the lorry and so went and had a word - I'm glad to report his opening gambit to the conversation was 'Don't you know who I am'.
Not a big fan - Humph was a treasure - Parsons is an arse

A famous lady star kicked off in an airport and said 'Don't you know who I am'
I'm trained in these things and luckily I heard the commotion. I moved up front and asked if she had her passport. She said she had and I said well look at the name on that and see if it rings any bells.
She clearly didn't recognise it because she kind of combusted on the spot. A fella behind shouted 'She's a twat' and so we at least had a surname to go on. I never did find out what the 'A' stood for.
It all took just a minute.

The "comedian" I never liked was Bob Monkhouse. He did a Corporate some 30 years ago, when he was in his prime. I sat at the front, and a couple of my (black) friends were nearby. Monkhouse was rat-arsed, read his jokes from a piece of paper, some of which were seriously racist. And he received £5K for this.

For shame on Adam Sandler, although if you do tell jokes it's nice is the laughter is above 40 decibels.
The Bob Monkhouse story has filled me with a melancholic woe because I have a soft spot for his 90s and later stuff. For shame sir.
Better than someone just saying 'do you know who I am?' is when they add; 'I... (pause) am an actor'. and then push past you.

Nikky P is a legend, not for the excellent and ever running JAM, but for his superb inclusion in Mr Jolly Lives Next Door. I once saw him in the Angel(?) pub in Henley in early 1990's, and after an afternoon session, drunkenly badgered him with Mr Jolly quotes from across the pub ("It's Nicholas bloody Parsons !" / "Look Nicholas, I'm a fire extinguisher!" etc ad nauseum....) - suprisingly he didn't think I was a comedy genius.
