Tickets for the final 'high octane' Monster Jam 2010 show being held at Birmingham's NIA on 19th September, featuring 'some of the coolest monster trucks in the world', have sold out following news that Pope Benedict XVI will be in attendance aboard a specially modified popemobile.
Following the beatification of Cardinal Newman, the Pope will attend the NIA aboard a 1600 horsepower, 66-inch-tyre vehicle, provisionally named La Bestia (The Beast), and will perform 'miraculous' jumps over some 14 partly-flattened cars whilst racing against arch rivals 'Grave Digger' and 'El Toro'.
'Getting the Pope here is a bit of a coup to be honest,' said Kelly Sharman, managing directory of DB Promotions UK who are supporting the UK leg of the Monster Jam tour. 'We have a suspicion that our tagline - 'the big boys are back in town' - had something to do with it, and we're not entirely sure that his holiness knows what he's actually coming here for, but we're sure he'll enjoy taking part in what is usually a stunning family show as we know he loves having lots of kids around.'
The Pope's attendance at the show stands in stark contrast with the rest of the itinerary for his UK visit, including his reception by HM The Queen at Holyrood, and his two sessions of 'meeting young people' scheduled for the Friday and Saturday afternoon, which sources close to the pontiff claim to be 'his most favourite part'.
