The Top Gear team have revealed that a video apparently showing a Renault being pushed sideways up the motorway at 60 mph was a TV stunt. The clip apparently shows the lorry driver obliviously carry on unaware he’s hit anything.
A spokesman admitted ‘There was originally a caravan attached to the back of the car and we’d told the Stig to see if he could push it over. If you look at the tape you can clearly see his white crash helmet through the window. He was supposed to roll it over on our track at Dunsfold but got a bit carried away and drove 240 miles with the car stuck on the truck. We finally managed to coax him to stop outside Darlington with a selection of supercars we’d parked by the roadside. No-one was hurt and we’ve got some great footage for the new series.’
BBC executives are investigating this latest prank and it’s likely that Clarkson, Hammond and May will be getting six of the best from the Director General.
