Hmmmmm...
What a c*nt.
See what I did there? One star...?
Never mind.
Feels like a flounce
Aye - deffo a flounce.
Sadly - simple things amuse simple minds.
Therefore I suspect the culprit might be Mick Hucknall.

If only. We're back to the perennial issue of weaponised stars. Those of us who have been here a few years (and some regulars recall this site when it was all fields - it was a metropolis when i joined) will take the stars with a pinch of salt. It would be nice if they meant something, but unfortunately they don't. It would be nice if you had to own up to awarding stars - making a comment at the same time is helpful but as Wren pointed out the other day, contributors sometimes don't have enough time when passing through. Others like to award stars without attribution - which is fine unless the award is malicious and unhelpful.
My concern is that newer contributors see their efforts one-starred and correlate that with a failure to be picked (on the surface, a reasonable link). The reality is that the editors frequently post good stuff that received zero or one stars because they've seen the merit in the post. One stars are often justified (I tend to none star them personally), but with supporting comments. My advice to writers new to this site is to not worry about random one-stars and keep trying.

Is this a confession?
This was a problem when I was a regular here - around 2008-10. There is no way you can have an open forum without risking this. You could have limitations on who can vote but then it puts new people off, which is exactly what everyone wants to avoid.
If it hasn't gone away in 8 years it's not likely to in a hurry. However, I think a few positive comments where they are justified do more to encourage new people than some obviously blanket 1* votes discourage them.
Just out of interest, how do you see who is online? There used to be a link to it on the forum page but I can't find it any more.

Welcome back - to see who is online you have to be logged in yourself and then if you click on the private messages tab at the top it tells you who is online and also who has been online that day (in most recent order of when they logged in or out I think)
Cheers
Chris
Interesting.
Thanks Chris.
They've revisited going back and one-starring a lot of mine and other's recent subs.
My spirit is totally crushed and I will never post anything anywhere again. It's over. I'm broken.
Goodbye cruel world.
*Sobs*
Comrade Chipchase: the way to avoid criticism is to say nothing. I've been doing that since 1917 and it's always worked for me.
If someone cares enough to be horrible to you, then that is a compliment.
It's indifference that really kills you.
If people can't give a monkey's enough to hate you, then you're really in trouble
Yawn.
Oh come on dom tell us:

A NewsBiscuit contributor is helping dominic_mcg with their enquiries. No further statements will be made at this moment in time.
haha!
The problem is - by your own admission - there is a 50% chance the culprit is you, so if you don't name names....
It was not I. It was someone else.
He'She's back again.
Using another different name.... :)

He would say that, wouldn't he.

Of course I would... ;)

Was it the Punk Panther? (Awaits him promptly to sign in. Would also be interested to hear his signature tune.)
Titus, there is no NewsBiscuit contributor named “Punk Panther”. Stop fantasising or you could end up being charged with wasting police time or attempting to pervert the course of justice.
There clearly is a conspiracy to try, only to prevent the Punk Panther from posting on here, but even to deny the existence of the Punk Panther.
This is proven by the lack of posts here from the Punk Panther and by the absence of the Punk Panther from the list of members.
And absolutely confirmed by these denials of any such conspiracy. That's what they always say.

This is to certify that Titus has been sectioned under the NewsBiscuit Mental Health Act of 1983.

Aha! So now we know - it's the Russians who are the sinister secret force behind the scenes, trying to take control of NewsBiscuit.
Typical old Soviet trick - trying to confine dissidents to mental health asylums.
