New research warns employees attracted by the promise of a better workplace elsewhere that while the grass may be up to 18% greener over there, this is often the result of having fewer parking spaces.
Experts at leading UK recruitment firm Reed Consulting, who conducted the study, warned against misguidedly leaving stable employment for the lure of more verdant vegetation, especially individuals that drive to work.
“In the current economic climate hastily ‘jumping ship’ for the promise of greener grass would seem a foolhardy thing to do,” explained Dev Singh, who lead the research.
“But we’re finding today’s disillusioned workforce are increasingly susceptible to lawned-area envy. However, what they’re not taking into account is that this grass has only been allowed to flourish because areas of concrete and tarmac in business parks have diminished in real terms since the mid-90’s.”
“It’s something we’re seeing across a much wider spectrum of people,” continued Dev. “Oh, except those with hay fever of course. They don’t seem to give a monkeys.”
