Scotland Yard's clueless detective, Inspector G Lestrade, is to at last get proper recognition, thanks to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
Johnson, who recently met Lestrade, said he was impressed by the detective's sleuthing skills.
'He's a spiffing good policeman,' said Johnson, 'whatever Sherlock Holmes might say. Although we'd never met, he knew right away that I was Mayor, that I liked cycling and that I'd been to a posh school. Gosh! Lestrade even worked out that I hadn't combed my hair that morning! Brilliant! He's a damned good copper and it's time he was given proper recognition.'
But Sherlock Holmes, who was recently called in by Johnson to help track down his stolen bicycle, was dismissive.
'i would draw your attention to the curious incident of the dog in the night-time,' the great detective said, embarking on a ten pipe job.
