Darren Church (26), who was tragically killed on Sunday in a cycling accident, was a 'thoroughly miserable bastard' according to friends and relatives who gathered yesterday to pay a roadside tribute to him.
'Oh, you wouldn't find a more miserable bastard anywhere,' said friend to the dead man since schooldays, Jim Beam. 'He always looked down in the dumps, even when he was happy. I guess this was the best thing ever to have happened to him. It might have even raised a smile on his horrible mush, but I doubt it.'
Mr Church's sister Sandra (30) said, 'Darren wasn't, like most people killed in tragic circumstances, full of fun and always ready to give a helping hand or a lovely man and someone's best friend. My brother was more of what you might call a thoroughly miserable bastard.'
The dead man's mother, Daphne, said she would miss her son's melancholic features and unrelenting scowl. 'Didn't matter what it was - a wedding, christening or a birthday party - to Darren they were all funerals. He was a miserable bastard and you can't ask for more than that from a son. Some people said he inherited from me, but I remember me having a right old chuckle about something only ten years ago.'

I think I knew this guy, sure he still owed me a tenner, the bastard!
This puts in words what I have often thought. Well done.
Marvellous, of course, Roy, but a youngster like yourself may not have been aware of this FP from back in the day:
Ta, but, Neal, old enough to have penned this -
I remember that one well, too and it warrants what I think they're calling these days 'the full toady'.
