Local people and politicians in Northern Ireland are today struggling to come to terms with being 'completely insignificant' as a result of successful devolution. Gerry Adams said, 'For years, the fact that we can't stop fighting with each other has given us special status. Everyone in Northern Ireland has been used to being important by being a collective pain in the arse. Now we have to face up to the fact that Northern Ireland it's basically another God-forsaken, poverty-striken post industrial wasteland littering the North of England (with some cows in).'

Politicians at Stormont have been working hard to find new reasons to be special, and suggestions have included 'sharing the UK's only land border with a non-continental land mass', and 'being the most westerly piece of the UK in the Northern hemisphere', but have failed to reach agreement on something sufficiently distinctive to justify the endless attention lavished on the province like an unruly child.
