Despite being offered a £3m tax-free pay packet to manage the UAE national champions, Mr Redknapp said the job wasn't challening enough. Mr Redknapp said, "I welcome the opportunity to clear my name in court over the charge of defrauding HMRC of £40,000. Clearly if I was to take money and legally not pay tax my heart would not be in it - where is the challenge in that? In addition, my work at Spurs is not yet over. I have run my previous clubs into the ground - Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and West Ham - but have not yet achieved that at Spurs. Sadly this offer was a season too early. Of course, I would welcome the opportunity to bankrupt a club in Dubai but such success would always be overshadowed by Sheikh Mohammed's success in bankrupting all of Dubai."
