A refreshed Labour Party has once again trounced the Wessex Regionalists in a by-election.

Wessex Regionalists leader Dave Yarwood admitted that “the electorate has clearly given a message to us that they are not yet fully convinced of the very real need to split Wessex from the rest of the UK. However, we’re a listening party, we’ve heard the message loud and clear to tell us we need to improve our communications, we’re sorry and we’ll look to regroup and come back stronger with more convincing arguments and ten times as many leaflets”.

Polls have suggested that many Eastleigh residents may have turned away from the Wessex Regionalists because they felt that the party was “really weird”, “a bit Dorset”, and “lacking a clear economic direction and with too much focus upon Morris dancing and cider production”. Further contributing factors included the overlooked fact that Eastleigh isn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, in Wessex at all.

Labour candidate John O’Farrell has been critical of the negative campaigning of his opponents who has often labelled him as a grockle for much of the campaign. “I gladly take this opportunity that the good people of Eastbourne, sorry Eastleigh, have given me to openly gloat at the poor showing of the Wessex Regionalists and will happily point out that if a general election were to be called today then based upon these results then their whole party would not win a single seat. Clearly there is only one party, after the Tories, fit to provide real opposition to the likely UKIP-Lib Dem coalition and that is the Labour Party.”
