Sky News defended its decision to broadcast an interview with a nine-year-old boy who witnessed one of Derrick Bird's murders.

"Going over the traumatic event that has shaken the community to its core is important for this little boy's recovery," said reporter Annie McPhee. "We need to ensure that the memory of what he witnessed is firmly imprinted on his mind - and we can assist with that if we get him to repeat exactly what he saw for the benefit of our viewers. Several hundred times."

Jordan Jones was interviewed in a swing park across the road from where he saw 64 year old Michael Pike gunned down. He was asked to describe the dead man, his relationship with him and another victim, and how he felt at seeing a crazed murderer at such close quarters.

"No, we were not being sensationalist," said Annie McPhee. "The viewers have a right to know what Mr Pike's face looked like after being shot at point blank range. It was disappointing that the little brat remained so calm. I got the camera to zoom in on Jordan's face when I said he must have been terrified that he'd be killed next. He shrugged. What sort of television is that? Where's the money shot? I even suggested that he might be having gory nightmares but I still couldn't make the little shit cry."
