Just an observation: which is the worse - the tragedy of a misearble, long-drawn-out, lingering career death (Clegg) or the shock of a sudden, traumatic and unexpected career death (Huhne)?

Possible scope here, maybe, for an NB story about the creation of a "Career Hospice" for politicians whose careers are doomed?

A local Vicar hopes a Facebook appeal, for anyone who doesn't know Nick Clegg to attend his imminent political funeral, will prompt a large turnout.

Rev. Bob Mason of Eastleigh posted his plea after realising that no-one who admitted to knowing the soon-to-be-deceased party leader would wish to be at his funeral. "I'd spoken to quite a few people but surprisingly few seemed to have known him. So I was heartened when a nice elderly chap, a Mr Ashdown, himself a former Marine, made contact to say he'd turn up anywhere at any time 'if only to make sure he's actually dead'"

There may be a sub in here somewhere but gotta dash
