Don’t forget, there was only ever one king but there are believed to be over 120 Spitfires buried out there somewhere.<br /> We think the decision was taken to bury the aircraft before anybody came up with the idea of using them to stop Germans from bombing the city.<br /> It was obvious really’.<br /> Although some sceptics are now saying the whole story of buried Spitfires was just a myth concocted by Allied forces desperate to escape the rat infested hell-hole and return home, aviation enthusiast Denis Cundell is adamant such a thing exists.<br /> ‘Oh, it definitely exists all right, we found it on Google earth’ said Cundell.....‘it’s just off Junction 21 on the M1...I believe Gary Lineker comes from there’. </p>
