Boffins from the Food Standards Agency confirmed today that the food chain, vital to the proper functioning of the UK food industry had been largely replaced with an actual chain due to "an error".

The FSA's head of pies Giles Anderson said "None of us had thought of checking earlier but when we got the food chain out of the cupboard it was all metal and chainy and that's when we knew something was wrong."

It is rumoured that the chain displayed Romanian markings adding to the already considerable pressure on the Romanian government to explain their actions.

Europe Analyst Andrea Mitchell said "It looks like Romania is being made the scapegoat in all this and ironically the rest of Europe are making mince meat out of them."
