Murphy's law indeed - would edit if I could.

But Apostrophitis is different from random typos and much more mysterious. It is deliberate, not accidental. If it were accidental it would be random, would infect all punctuation not just apostrophes and would be as likely to lead to their absence where needed as much as to their presence where unwanted - which it never is.

Research continue's. Funding sought.

"Despite rigorous efforts to purge such posts" stated P. Dant, professor of Grammatical Infection at the English University "the highly persistent Superfluous Apostrophe infection can still strike without warning, even in unxpected places which are normaally well maintained. It results in the victim looking foolish and ignorant, and frequently destroys the credibility the post in question."

"One strange characteristic of the infection" continued the professor "is thtat it only ever seems to feature apostrophes and no other punctuation marks. And it only ever seems to cause the growth of additional apostrophes where they are unwanted, never their absence from where they belong. The problem just get's worse."
