Lottery players are celebrating lottery operator Camelot’s major win as the cost of a ticket is set to double in price later this year.

Punters throughout the UK were jumping for jackpot joy as the increase to £2 for a single line of numbers was announced.

Bill Cartwright of Tipton in the West Midlands is a regular player, “As the most I’ve ever won is ten quid in nineteen years of playing I’m absolutely chuffed that the extra quid they’re slapping on a ticket will help Camelot create more winners and help even more charities. It’s just bloody genius that prize money will also be halved to £50,000 if you win five numbers and the bonus ball. I can’t wait to hand over another £30 a week at Shavs’ Fags & Booze corner shop.”

After carrying out research about the game, Camelot UK managing director Andy Duncan said: "Our players still love Lotto but after 18 years they say they want to increase the huge sense of loss and disappointment when their numbers fail to come up on a Saturday night.

We've spoken extensively with them to develop a re-energised game and they feel that a 100% increase is very very fair. After all some of our poorest punters are charged more than 2,000% APR for their pay day loans so it represents extremely good value for money."

Presenter Carol Smillie, one of a number of celebrities to appear on the BBC1 TV draw said, “With more money going to good causes I’m really looking forward to boring the Saturday night shit out of our TV audience as there’ll be even more mind numbing interviews with wooden topped sports people. It’s very hard keeping a fixed smile on your face while plunging down on that big shiny lottery knob. But with the 100% increase in my fee you'll now see my wisdom teeth.”

With the new ticket price comes a new logo, said a Camelot spokesman “We’ll still have the same smiley hand but the two fingers will now be separated in line with what we think of our loyal customers.”
